🤔💰 Why should I do this if I do NOT get paid for the 15-minute intro meeting?

🤩 You rank higher in the search and recommendation results. Ultimately, you will earn more since you will get more students!

⚡️It will also save you time! Rather than having all the back and forth via chat messaging, you can quickly set up a free introductory session to discuss the lesson details.

We put together this short video to explain exactly how the free 15-minute intro meeting works.

  • When this setting is turned on, the first 15-minutes between the student and tutor is free!

  • The 15-minute intro session is meant to be an introductory meeting where the student and tutor can get to know one another and discuss specific learning needs.

Please watch this video to learn exactly how the 15-minute intro works

EXTENDING THE INTRO LESSON PAST 15-MINUTES

*Important: When the 15-minute intro is turned on, the session duration will be fixed at 15-minutes (i.e., you won't be able to change the duration during the booking process).

However, when you are actually in the session, you can "extend the lesson" by adding overtime. Learn exactly how adding overtime works here.

  • When overtime is applied, the student is charged for the overtime and the tutor is paid. Overtime will never automatically be applied. It can only be applied by the student/tutor. during the actual lesson.

Overtime rates are based on the standard $20/hour rate (as a tutor, you are paid 100% of the overtime rate)

  • 5-minutes = $1.67

  • 15-minutes = $5

  • 30-minutes = $10

  • 45-minutes = $15

  • 1-hour = $20

Questions about how to extend a lesson?

  • Lessons cut out 5-minutes after the scheduled end time unless you add extra time. Follow the steps to extend a lesson.

Step 1: Hover over the "+" icon while in your classroom.

Step 2: Indicate the amount of time you would like to extend the lesson.

Step 3: Continue your lesson!

Need to edit the lesson duration after it is completed?

At the moment, only tutors can edit a lesson duration after the session end time. As a student, if you would like to edit the duration, please message your tutor directly.

As a tutor, you can edit the duration of a lesson after it is completed. After a lesson comes to an end, you have 12 hours before the session automatically verifies (which is when your payout is initiated). During this 12 hour period, you can click the Edit button on your session card to “edit” the lesson duration. You can find the "Edit" button on your session card via your Messages or Dashboard.

TEMPLATE - Use to offer a free 15-minute introductory meeting

Hi there, thank you for reaching out! Teaching is something that I genuinely enjoy, so I would be happy to help. I personalize my lessons to meet each student's needs, as we all have different ways of processing knowledge. To do this, I typically schedule a free 15-minute introductory meeting to get to know each other. We can video conference and meet face-to-face in GoPeer's secured online classroom. This will allow you to see first-hand how our tutoring sessions work and how easy and fun online lessons can be. It also allows us to discuss your specific learning needs and goals.

It sounds like this may be a great fit! Would you like to set up a free 15-minute introductory meeting?

ADDITIONAL TEMPLATE - Three sections to a detailed first response

Part 1 - Introduce yourself

Hi Sammy, thank you for reaching out! My name is Jill, and I am a junior at UC Berkeley studying Computer Science and Mathematics. I love learning and sharing that passion with my students.

Part 2 - Share your experience. It's your time to shine!

I started tutoring in high school and found a passion for helping other students find that “Aha!” moment during a lesson. I have worked formally with students in AP Biology, Precalculus, and AP Chemistry classes for the past two years. In addition, I tutor advanced English for international students/English Language Learners.

I believe that seeking a tutor is an important step in learning since the material might not “click” all of the time. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, and, indeed, I believe that inquiry is the root of all learning.

I personalize my lessons to each student because each student is unique! We all have different ways of processing knowledge. More importantly, I try my best to make learning fun. I have always enjoyed studying, and I aspire to share the same learning attitude with all my students. In our time together, I want students to grow in their knowledge AND their confidence.

Outside of the classroom, I love to ski, rock climb, listen to music, work with ceramics, and volunteer with local nonprofit organizations. I love learning and helping people discover their talents inside and outside of the classroom!

Part 3 - End with a question:

If possible, could you share more specifics about your learning goals? Is there a specific topic on which you would like to focus? If you have any worksheets or assignments from your teacher, I would love to look at them before our first session to decide how best to help. Thank you again for reaching out, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
